With over 35 years of experience, BookConserve provides skilled craftsmanship with a strong foundation in material science when conserving your items.
All book conservation and paper conservation is conducted in a secure state of the art lab using both traditional techniques and the most current conservation equipment available to the field. All conservation treatments, materials, and techniques meet conservation standards as practiced by the American Institute for Conservation. During preliminary examination of the artifact conservation treatment options are discussed with the client, as well as the length of time to complete the work and the associated costs. Clients are provided with both written documentation identifying materials and techniques used, and photographic documentation recording the state of the artifact before, during, and after treatment.
Conservation Services:
Books: Whether your item needs a loose spine reattached, a period binding or refurbishing or a custom binding, BookConserve can provide a full range of conservation treatment for your rare books and manuscripts, family Bibles, vintage photo albums, scrapbooks, or children's illustrated books.
Documents: Paper or parchment manuscripts, diplomas, archival documents, personal letters and maps are often times rolled, stapled, folded, torn or stained from being stored in a poor manner. Tears, losses, staining, distortion or a weakened support can be corrected and bring your artifact to useable condition.
Art on Paper: Art on paper includes a wide range of formats from illuminated manuscripts, prints & drawings, pen & ink, watercolors, pastels, mixed media, Japanese print, Chinese paintings on pith, and lithographs. These are often damaged by poor framing practices as well as exposure to poor environmental conditions. Most of the damage can be corrected and BookConserve works with frame shops to ensure they are informed of current museum mounting practices.
Ephemera & Collectibles: Postcards, hotel decals, toy in boxes and other ephemera are collectibles and they can be restored or refurbished if worn or torn.
